Is spring football really a possibility? Can you imagine Alabama and Tennessee playing on the Third Saturday in March, instead of the Third Saturday in October? Ole Miss and Mississippi State playing in the Easter Egg Bowl? The Rose Bowl kicking off on Memorial Day, instead of New Year's Day? After the Big Ten and Pac-12 announced last week that their teams would play only conference games, the 2020 college football season has reached a tipping point. With cor...

Why MLB teams are less likely to manipulate prospects’ service time in 60-game 2020 season

Next week, Major League Baseball is scheduled to launch its 2020 regular season. Whether or not the ongoing pandemic allows MLB to execute those plans is to be seen, but if the season gets off the ground then it's certain to be unlike any in recent memory -- beginning with its start date and its length, and extending to all manners of strategy and management, including how teams manage their top prospects. Whereas teams are usually quick to engage in service-time manipulation with their best and readiest prospects during a standard season, there is reason to think this year will be different. In recent weeks, CBS Sports has talked with multiple front-office members who believe teams will (mostly) forgo their usual...

Pacers star Victor Oladipo will attempt to play when NBA restarts season in Orlando, per report

Indiana Pacers star Victor Oladipo has changed course and is now expected to attempt to play in the Orlando bubble when the 2019-20 NBA season resumes later this month. The shooting guard has been participating in five-on-five scrimmages, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.  Oladipo tore his quad tendon last season, and made his return in late January, just about six weeks before play was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic. As a result of his health situation, Oladipo told The Athletic in an interview just a few weeks ago that he didn't feel comfortable returning to play under the current circumstances. "I really want to play, and as a competitor and teammate this is tearing me apart. I feel like I...

Fantasy Baseball Rankings 2020: Sleepers, busts, breakouts from proven model that nailed Bieber’s big season

The 2020 Fantasy baseball season is approaching rapidly with all 30 teams already holding intrasquad scrimmages during MLB summer camp. Fantasy baseball owners are going to be continually perplexed by expanded pitching staffs. Some teams are contemplating seven or eight-man rotations and stretching relievers out to pitch as many as three innings, and that could throw a serious wrench into how we evaluate Fantasy baseball pitchers. Mike Clevinger and James Paxton would have started the season on the injured list if not for the work stoppage, but both are expected to be ready when the season starts. But will they be ready to take on a full workload when the season starts? Gerrit Cole already threw five innings in an...

MLB’s short season could create some big surprises

We're going to have baseball this summer after all, although the season will be only 60 games long -- a little more than a third of a normal campaign. We might see some surprise statistical leaders, given the relatively small sample size, which got us thinking: What happened the last time the Major League Baseball season was shorter than usual? That was in 1994, when the season ended prematurely because of a strike. Frank Thomas and Jeff Bagwell were named the American League and National League MVPs that season, and both are now members of the Hall of Fame.Tony Gwynn was close to a .400 batting average when baseball's season ended in 1994. Focus on Sport/Getty ImagesBut Matt Williams was actually the major league leader in home runs when the season was stopped, with 43. Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne undecided on playing 2020 WNBA season after opt-out request denied

Washington Mystics star Elena Delle Donne, the reigning MVP, had her request to opt out of the 2020 WNBA season because of medical reasons denied by the league. One of the WNBA's best players and biggest names, Delle Donne suffers from Lyme disease and is undecided on whether she'll play.  In a statement released to ESPN, Delle Donne said that decision made by the league's panel of doctors goes against the advice of her own personal physicians.  "The independent panel of doctors the league appointed to review high-risk cases have advised that I'm not high risk, and should be permitted to play in the bubble," Delle Donne said. "I love my team, and we had an unbelievable season last year, and I want to play! But th...
